Scary Movie 2 was not nearly as good as the original Scary Movie, and I hated that one too. While the first one had some semblance of being an actual movie, the sequel is just a random combination of sex related humor with some past movie references thrown in. Anna Faris, Regina Hall, and Shawn and Marlon Wayans all return for the sequel to the mega-grossing spoof Scary Movie. This time they are joined by Chris Masterson (of Malcom in the Middle fame), Kathleen Robertson and Tori Spelling (of 90210 fame), Chris Elliot and Tim Curry. A group of unsuspecting college students is sent to a house where a poltergeist lives. I'm not sure exactly why they're sent there, but they are. And while there, they encounter strange people and possessed cats. There are a lot of gags related to past horror/thriller, as well as other films, from What Lies Beneath, to The Exorcist to Charlie's Angels. There are also a few gags thrown in from the original film, and a lot of sex related humour with no relation to anything other than a need to have sex related humour. As bad as I thought the original was, I thought this one was even worse. Other than the basketball commercial send up, I didn't find anything else all that funny. There were a couple of one liners and visual gags that were interesting, but besides that, most of the movie was just boring. As in the first movie, Anna Faris was the best reason to watch, simply because she just gets so into her character and takes herself so seriously it makes her entertaining. The rest of the returning cast was just as blah as before. Kathleen Robertson was a welcome addition as the sex-pot of the group, but Tori Spelling was I think there because a lot of people would like to see her killed off in a movie. Chris Elliot was restrained as the deformed caretaker and his normal style of humour was hidden behind his grotesque look. Of course considering how much money the first movie made, it's certainly possible that I just don't get the humour. There does seem to be a market for this kind of movie, but it's not for me. I found after viewing the original a second time on DVD, that I found it to be slightly funnier than the first time around, but I don't see myself seeing this one again any time soon. Other than being able to enjoy looking at Anna Faris and Kathleen Robertson, I don't think there's any reason for me to watch it again. This movie just had low grade humour even the Farrelly brothers wouldn't even enjoy. So overall if you were a fan of Scary Movie, you'll probably enjoy Scary Movie 2. If you're not a fan of the original like myself, then you're going to hate Scary Movie 2 even more. For pictures of Tori Spelling and today's hottest celebrities, visit the Gallery.
